Every time it comes around, the autumn seems to be the favourite time of year for more and more people. From the vibrant colours to the cool, crisp air, there’s lots to like about the fall.
If you like to decorate your home, the change is seasons is a great excuse to get back inside and come up with a fresh new look. Fall décor trends tend to have a warm, rustic, harvest-time feel. With things like dried leaves and harvest fruits adorning our homes, it’s like we want to bring what’s left of summer inside with us.
If you want your home décor to be more rustic than simply adding some coloured leaves and a few gourds to the dining table, here are a some DIY ideas you can try (and even your door and cabinet hardware can play a role!).
1. Twig Letters
Social media is a great place to find home décor ideas, even when you’re not looking for them. If you’re on Instagram and like people who post images of Toronto, you may have noticed the Toronto driftwood sign recently. Words and letters crafted from wild wood are a great way to not only get rustic, but to personalize your decor too.
2. Repurpose Old Wooden Boxes, Crates and Pallets
You can stain boxes and crates to become anything from a place for your books and magazines to a holder for your flower vases. Pallets are a popular décor idea and you can turn them into a wall hanging or coffee table.
If you take the box or pallet apart, you open up a whole world of unique possibilities for things like picture frames, decorative shelving and coat nooks.
3. Wrap Your Door & Cabinet Hardware
We’ve told you before about the huge difference something as seemingly small as your kitchen door and drawer handles and pulls can make to your décor. You can quickly and easily transform just about any door and cabinet hardware style into a rustic one by wrapping the handles in twisted sisal rope.
Yes, summer’s over, but that doesn’t mean the fun has to stop!
